Dress and appearance are one of the most important aspects of being a business professional. Recently, I talked about making a good first impression. People can be easily misread when they appear to be unprofessional. How we look and present ourselves to others is important. The goal is to make a good impression all the time on the first try. I have interviewed for several part time positions since I have been in the military. Of the three interviews that I have been too, each time I was offered a position with the company. One hospital, for example, even offered me a full time job working in their emergency room. Yes, I may have been offered the job, but how I looked or my interviewing skills were never a factor that made me nervous. I was always prepared. You must be willing to do the same in order to be successful.
Recommendations:- When wearing professional attire, you should dress conservatively and age appropriate.
- When preparing for a job interview, it is better to be over dressed than to be under dressed.
- Don't wear too much cologne/perfume or excess jewelry.
- Be sure that you are neatly groomed and do not wear opened toed shoes (no flip flops, sandles, etc.).
